The most common foodborne illnesses are caused by Salmonella, E. Coli and Listeria bacteria, among others.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) report that more than 320,000 cases of people contracting food-borne zoonotic diseases are reported each year in Europe alone.
